The senior accountant is primarily responsible for maintaining the financial records of Shenandoah Valley Medical System, Inc. and its subsidiary Shenandoah Pharmacy, LLC. This position requires attention to detail, ability to work quickly and accurately, ability to work within deadlines, and to work well with others in a fast paced, deadline driven environment!
Role & Responsibilities:
- Support timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close, including assigned journal entries balance sheet account reconciliations, accruals and overall maintenance of all operational accounts.
- Processes bi-weekly ADP payroll.
- Perform mid-senior level general ledger account reconciliations, verify accuracy of data and reports, identify and correct errors independently.
- Prepares and submits grant budgets/modifications, invoices, expenditure reports, timely, accurately, and in compliance with Federal, State and Local grant agreements.
- Assist the Controller in preparing consolidated internal financial statements by gathering, analyzing, reviewing and ensuring information in the general ledger is accurate and properly classified in the financial statements.
- Assist in providing schedules and commentary with respect to general ledger accounts, researching and detailing variances to department managers, leadership, Controller, and CFO.
- Prepare and compile schedules, forms, and documentation for external auditors.
- Other associated duties as assigned.
Essential Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access, Word
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Able to read and understand technical forms and financial reports
- Willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships

- Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in urgent or emergency situations
- Strong computer skills with a knowledge of accounting and automated systems
- Maintenance of general ledger transactions, accounting sub-ledgers, supporting documentation
Qualifications & Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
- A minimum of 5+ years of experience required
- Knowledge of Healthcare accounting preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
