Responsible for the installation, creation, monitoring, support, maintenance and optimization of databases and Network; participates in design; ensures secure database and network access, data integrity and security, as well as manages performance and capacity.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Manage daily workflow and task assignments within the lab.
- Report to designated leads while collaborating closely with other staff.
- Maintain flexible working hours with required office presence.
- Administer and optimize Linux-based servers supporting lab operations.
- Implement and monitor backup strategies to ensure data integrity.
- Configure and maintain virtualization platforms and network infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues to minimize downtime.
- Document processes, configurations, and troubleshooting guides.
Work Environment
- Office-based with flexibility in hours. (Need to be in office for all 5 days no remote)
- Regular interaction with cross-functional teams.
- Hands-on engagement with lab hardware and software systems.
Potential Role Evolution
- Transition into a full-time position split between lab responsibilities and Cummins IT support.
- Lead long-term hardware replacement planning and infrastructure upgrades.
- Expand responsibilities as the lab grows, ensuring scalability and continuity.
Role Classification
- Position classified as Network Engineer rather than Network Administrator, reflecting the technical demands and emphasis on Linux expertise.
Duration and Workload Expectations
- Initial phase will involve a busy setup period.
- Ongoing responsibilities will be steady but manageable.
- Potential to evolve into a full-time split role as lab operations expand.
Need to be strong in Linux, experience with Hardware will be good to have.
