Responsibilities

  • Implement behavior supports and classroom management strategies consistent with student needs and

IEP requirements.

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group behavioral support using evidence-based practices, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methods.
  • Deliver targeted instruction under teacher direction using strategies such as discrete trial training, direct

instruction, task analysis, and positive behavior supports.

  • Collect, record, and report behavioral and instructional data to support progress monitoring and IEP

documentation.

  • Assist students with daily living skills, including self-care, social skills, communication, leisure activities, and community access skills.
  • Support students with personal care needs, which may include toileting, diapering, feeding, positioning,

catheterization procedures, and hygiene assistance, in accordance with training and District protocols.

  • Assist with behavior regulation, de-escalation strategies, and safe response procedures as trained.
  • Support students during transitions, including arrival/departure, transportation, field trips, and

community-based instruction.

  • Collaborate with special education teachers, related service providers, and administrators to ensure

consistency of behavioral supports.

  • Assist students with participation in school activities, groups, clubs, and vocational or pre-vocational training as appropriate.
  • Maintain student confidentiality and comply with IDEA, District policies, and safety procedures at all

times.

Additional Duties

  • Assist with supervision during lunch, recess, or other assigned duties.
  • Support off-campus activities and field trips.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or administrator.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma, adult high school diploma, or G.E.D.
  • Must also meet one of the following:
  • Passing score on the Master Teacher Assessment (demonstrating ability to assist in reading, writing,

and mathematics)

  • Completion of two years of post-secondary study (48+ semester hours)
  • Associate's degree (or higher)
  • Ability to work effectively with students with severe disabilities and complex behavioral needs.
  • Physical ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board

(BACB).

  • Experience working with students with autism, severe disabilities, or significant behavioral challenges.
  • Training or experience in ABA strategies, data collection, and behavior intervention.
  • Willingness to obtain RBT certification within a District-approved timeframe (if not currently certified).

Other Requirements

  • Completion of District-required training related to student safety, behavior support, and medical or physical assistance procedures.

Description Millard School District is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Behavioral Support Specialist (Registered Behavior Technician - RBT) to provide intensive behavioral and instructional support to students with significant disabilities and behavioral needs. This position supports students receiving special education services, including those participating in alternate assessments as determined by the IEP team.
