Description

The College of Professional Studies (CPS) has launched a dynamic Bachelor's Completion Program and is actively seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to collaborate on the design and development of a Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) course.

The role of the SME in CPS will work closely with our curriculum and instructional design teams to create an engaging, outcomes-based PLA course that supports adult and non-traditional learners in identifying and articulating their college-level learning through portfolio development. Additional opportunities to teach this course as well.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop a 3-credit PLA course, including outcomes, modules, and assessments.
  • Create or curate instructional content that guides students through reflection, documentation, and portfolio preparation.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers to ensure pedagogical soundness and online delivery best practices.
  • Align course materials with academic standards and credit evaluation processes.
  • Recommend tools, resources, or frameworks to support faculty evaluating PLA submissions.
  • Write a course syllabus
  • Record video "lectures"
  • Design engaging visual representations to help students learn content
  • Attend required weekly check-in meetings with the Instructional Design team and/or the Program
  • Participate in drafting a schedule for deliverables
  • Meet agreed-upon deadlines per the master course development schedule

Qualifications

  • Master's or Doctorate in Education, Adult Learning, Curriculum & Instruction, or related fieldDemonstrated expertise in Prior Learning Assessment or adult learning theory
  • Experience designing or teaching PLA or portfolio-based courses preferred
  • Familiarity with CAEL standards or similar frameworks is a plus
  • Strong written communication and collaborative skills
  • Curriculum design experience and familiarity with implementation of principle of backward design
  • Demonstrated skill in creating learning activities and meaningful assessments of student learning
  • Writing and editorial skill, understanding of copyright issues
  • Technical skill in generating and editing graphics/images
  • Ability to design, edit, and embed multi-media content in html files
  • Excellent collaborative and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently once a task is thoroughly explained and effectively during time-on-task
